In November of 2012, I attended a Native American Pow Wow at Stone Mountain Park, Georgia.  I had attended another Native American event at my local fairgrounds years ago, but it was smaller in scale and not referred to as a Pow Wow.  I was amazed at both the size and scope of this one. The event was over the span of four days and was well attended.  Historical information was available with teepees and other items that are native to the culture.  There were several Native Americans in full regalia that spoke to the visitors about the ancient practices and explained why they were necessary. There also was native food including Indian tacos, gator bites and buffalo burgers.  My favorite event though, was the costume and dance competition.  There were many different costumes and dances with the participants ages ranging from young children to seniors.   The Native American circle dance that is performed in the the above video has been performed as a traditional ritual since prehistoric times.  Many consider is to symbolize peace and community.

I made many photos and several videos to reference for my chapter ebook for young children, Roland’s Stupendous Imagination And The Native Americans.  The ebook is a historical fiction for young children.  Information including symbols and legends are referenced on the Native American culture.  Available on all ereader platforms, the ebook, is $2.99.
