Today is Friday and that means FREE APPS for kids. Every Friday I will review and list some free apps for kids. Also the Moms With Apps website offers specials every Friday until 8 PM when most of the apps return to regular price. Many developers offer free or reduced prices on their new apps for kids when they are first released to help build publicity about the apps and in hope they can also generate reviews. You can find these by visiting the Apple App Store, Categories, Education or Books and then look for New and Noteworthy. Right now Apple has a large category of Fun Summer Learning for Kids. Most apps are very inexpensive but some are FREE.
When I just checked this morning I found many that are highly rated and would be wonderful to provide a learning and fun environment for kids this summer. One that is very exciting is Penquin Leveled Reader. The well-respected publishing giant is offering the app free that is free and has one book per reading level free. If you want you can then buy additional books to build your library with over 75 books offered. Also offered is the ability to record your own voice and up to three stories with your own sounds and narration. This is a great way to keep a child entertained and build their reading skills during the summer. Rated 4+ stars the app is available on IPod Touch, IPhone, and IPad.
I found a cute FREE drawing app for kids, “How To Draw” by Damir Nigomedyanov. the app offers three options; freestyle drawing, drawing by learning to draw with shapes or coloring. It includes lots of drawings such as cartoon characters, animals, cars, dragons, planes, flowers, etc. Each drawing is divided into a number of easy to follow steps. Apple has rated it 4+ stars. It is compatible with IPod Touch, IPhone and IPad.
My rating: **** – 4 stars
For today’s drawing assignment, draw something on your IPad or computer if you can. If not just draw it on paper. Draw a picture of a place you would like to visit this summer.
The Free Kids Art And Reading Online Camp will continue through July 31. Five days a week there will be an activity and all those that participate can upload photos to my author illustrator page on FaceBook. Participation can be random or on a regular basis, but prizes will be awarded for the top five participants with the most photos of their weekly projects uploaded to my FaceBook page. The prizes will be $25.00 gift cards to Michael’s Arts and Craft Stores. Prizes will be announced on August 7 and mailed immediately. I also will offer other reviews of books and apps for children through the summer here on my blog. Be sure to bookmark this page for the links and sign up for my mailing list. If you have any questions please post them as a comment to this blog. Please share this blog and info and get ready to have some fun!
