Kids Activities – Recipe for Homemade Clay

This time of the summer the kids are really getting bored and it is so hot outside that if the kids are out there very long they will either get sunburned or heat stroke.  This summer I have been posting on my blog different kids activities to keep them busy during the summer that are easy and don’t require many supplies that can be easily created in a home environment.

One activity that the kids love and is easy to make at home is homemade clay.  An adult can prepare it ahead of time or the children can also pitch in and make it themselves. The process is easy.

Recipe For Homemade Clay

Supplies:

  • 4 cups flour
  • 1 cup of salt
  • 1-1/2 cups water

Mix the ingredients together to form the clay.

Store the clay in a sealed container until it is needed.

Bake the finished pieces on a non-stick cookie sheet at 350°F for approximately one hour or until they are slightly brown around the edges.

Cool the baked clay items on a wire rack before using them or painting them.

This recipe can be used with projects for children but also can be used to make beads and ornaments.  For projects for children it is good to use water based paints but for adults acrylic paints can be used.  The acrylic paints are permanent while the water based paints can be washed off.  with either one the projects can then be sealed with a spray or paint on acrylic finish to protect the paint.
