Yikes! Less than two weeks until Halloween, how about some do it yourself Halloween costumes for kids? Although most any large retail store sells pre-made Halloween costumes, but it is always more fun and less expensive to make them yourself. The idea is to be creative, use materials that are available, and not spend a lot of money. The great thing about the internet is that there are many blogs that offer ideas and pictures for great Halloween costumes for adults and children. The way I like to come up with ideas is to look at picture/photos on the internet and then consider alternate versions. Often other ideas will spurn from this. Next think about all the resources you might already have, such as solid or patterned clothing, etc. A pair of solid colored pants and a long sleeve t-shirt can be a great beginning.  For capes consider plastic garbage bags and cut them apart. Also a great supply source is a dollar store.  My favorite is Dollar Tree. You can buy plastic table cloths for $1.00 in a variety of colors. These can be easily cut into shapes with scissors and glued over wire frames if needed. They also have feathers, craft supplies, glue-on eyes etc. Your local thrift store is also a good place to look for ideas too. You need to be open to finding something that catches your eye instead of looking for a specific item though. Craft stores will probably care most anything you need including fabric, glue, ribbon etc but it is best to check out the dollar store first if you are interested in cutting costs.
