The adult coloring rage is happening now.  Have you heard about it? As long as I can remember coloring books have been a popular activity for children. Almost every child I have ever known loves to color and a big treat is a new coloring book and crayons.  Everyone knows that, but how about adults coloring?  My first recognition of adult coloring was when my youngest sister told me she just loves to color. I asked why. She replied because it relaxes her. I asked her why not drawing instead and the answer was because coloring was much less stress and all you have to do is color and enjoy it without much thought. This was years ago.  The next event was about a year ago when I noticed how much it relaxed me to color objects that I had drawn on my ipad.  I found great relief and joy when finishing a piece of  my artwork. The next thing I knew I was seeing articles online of how two of the top 10 books on Amazon.com were adult coloring pages.  The Huffington Post and major network news were reporting about the phenomenon. It made me start to think about coloring pages for adults and children. As an art teacher I have always though it was better to draw and create your own art than color in someone else pre-drawn designs, but some adults and children do not like to draw, they just want to color. It does give satisfaction to everyone to see the black and white images suddenly bursting with color. It is calming and relaxing, so it must be a good thing.

Coloring for adults is considered therapeutic according to Dr. Paul Schoenfield, director of The Everett Clinic’s Center for Behavioral Health and Family Talk columnist.

“We all remember the pleasure of coloring as children — filling in the space with reds, yellows and greens,” Schoenfeld said. “Adults can rediscover the enjoyment of doing something that is fun, but doesn’t require an effort. So much of modern life is effortful and demanding. Adult art, whether it be coloring in a book, drawing, painting or taking photos with our smart phones can provide relief from the stress and strains of everyday life.”

Most of the coloring for adults is put together is the form of a book. The problem is that it usually won’t lay flat and you have to either try to tear or cut out the pages.  I offer with my coloring pages is individual pages of loose sheets which makes it easier to lay flat and begin to color.  Seasonal images have always been important to me so I am including Fall and Thanksgiving coloring pages and then will add some for other holidays and seasons. I also love nature and flowers so am working on some of those and will be up loading those before long.

My coloring pages are available as individual pages as digital downloads and you can join in on the adult coloring rage.  The pages are available in the shop section of this website by clicking here.  You can print two copies for each purchase of the same design.  I will be adding more selections regularly so please check back often and leave me a comment on the form below.
