I was out-of-town for a couple of days up a mountain with no internet connection so here are my second group of sketches for SkADaMo -2. One of my new book ideas involves a squirrel and so I have been doing sketches of squirrels and looking for photos for reference. I think when drawing animals it is important to incorporate what your own ideas are surrounding the animal and then consult reference photos also. The internet is the greatest help for artists and illustrators because it simplifies the process of searching for reference photos. I have a new iPad Air and gave Siri a voice command to find pictures of squirrels and they instantly appeared. Amazing! I remember the days before the internet and the searching was much more complicated to sit and go through endless stack of magazine, books and periodicals just trying to find some photos for reference. Sometimes you would find them soon as needed and sometimes not. I had a couple of boxes of files that I kept photos for reference for drawing, painting and illustrating. These illustrations were drawn on my new iPad Air with the apps Sketchbook Pro and Procreate. I also used the stylist brush Sensu.
