Recently I attended the SCBWI – Southern Breeze Illustrators sketchbook event to Atlanta Botanical Gardens. The sketchbook events are always fun and it is great to meet with other like-minded people like myself that like to draw and illustrate. I was especially excited about this one though because I love gardening and nature.
The gardens offered several exhibits that were about to close the next week in addition to all their beautiful gardens. Imaginary World is a collection of large topiary sculptures covered with live plants. They are located throughout the gardens and a pure delight. Most are very large, 20- 30 feet tall. Some of the most eye-catching are the huge cobra snakes near the entrance.
There also was a scarecrow exhibit and competition that various organizations and schools had participated in by creating a scarecrow with a specific theme in mind. The scarecrows were scattered through the gardens which added to the feeling of Fall.
Although there was a lot to see and enjoy, we also managed to create some artwork and discuss it over lunch. Michael Allen Austin had prepared us some great prompts for our illustrations. It was a great creative day at the SCBWI – Southern Breeze Illustrators Sketchbook Event to Atlanta Botanical Gardens.
